INGREDIENT SAFETY

Safety without compromise is the first step in each one of our effective sweat & odor solutions. And because our standards are high, we ensure every material and finished product meets industry standards for purity, quality and performance.

WHAT ARE PARABENS?

Parabens are preservatives used to keep health and beauty products fresh by preventing the growth of harmful bacteria. These compounds are amongst the most commonly used cosmetic preservatives in the world and have a long history of safe use. They have been extensively studied and determined to be safe for usage in personal care products by expert scientific panels and governmental regulatory agencies. None of the extensive research carried out on parabens has indicated a potential risk of harm to human health and parabens remain amongst the safest of preservatives in today’s cosmetic products.

Parabens are also naturally occurring in many foods that we enjoy as part of a healthy lifestyle. These include cucumbers, carrots, onions, blueberries and cherries.

DOES BAN® SKINCARE USE THEM?

Short story: Our Antiperspirant, Deodorants and Body products are paraben-free.

WANT THE LONG STORY?

Methylparabens are the most common preservative used in food and cosmetics. In the United States, methylparaben and propylparaben are recognized as safe by the FDA.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is a federal organization responsible for protecting public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, and medical devices, our nation's food supply, cosmetics, etc.

Other independent groups, the American Cancer Society, the FDA, and Cancer Research Centers, have looked for many different causes for cancer but have never found any evidence of risk from parabens.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF ALUMINUM SALTS IN BAN ANTIPERSPIRANT?

Aluminum salts role is to prevent you from sweating. They control sweat by creating a thin layer of gel that sits on top of your sweat glands. This temporarily blocks your sweat glands and significantly reduces the amount of sweat that seeps through.

WANT THE LONG STORY?

Antiperspirants are designed to prevent sweat before it starts. By preventing sweat, antiperspirants help keep your underarms stay fresh and dry. Antiperspirants work best on clean, dry skin so applying antiperspirant right before you go to sleep can help protect you from sweat the next day.

To control sweat, antiperspirants use aluminum salts. Aluminum salts are the only approved active ingredients for antiperspirants by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These aluminum salts create a thin layer of gel that sits on top of your sweat glands and temporarily prevents your sweat glands from producing sweat. Therefore, antiperspirants work best when they are applied before you start sweating.

While aluminum salts are used to prevent sweating, your sweat doesn’t smell. Your sweat starts to smell when naturally-occurring bacteria on your skin break down the proteins in your sweat. Often times, antiperspirants are combined with added deodorant ingredients to go the extra mile. Deodorant ingredients roles are to target and help eliminate odor caused by bacteria on your skin. Antiperspirant deodorants help block both moisture and odor so you can rid of sticky, icky, and funky smells all at once.

If you’d like to continue doing your own research on aluminum salts and antiperspirants we recommend checking out the FDA’s guidelines on antiperspirants and their active ingredients: 21 CFR §350 Antiperspirant Drug Products For Over-the-counter Human Use - Code of Federal Regulations (ecfr.io)

WHAT IS BAKING SODA?

Baking Soda is the common name for sodium bicarbonate. It is well known as a multipurpose ingredient used in cooking, cleaning and household odor prevention. Certain deodorant products have used baking soda for its odor-neutralizing properties.

DOES BAN® USE BAKING SODA IN THEIR PRODUCTS

Ban does not use baking soda in our products. We have chosen to develop products with other deodorant materials that are more effective against odor and do not damage or irritate the skin.

WANT THE LONG STORY?

Baking Soda is the common name for sodium bicarbonate. It is well known as a multipurpose ingredient used in cooking, cleaning and household odor prevention. Some natural deodorants have chosen to use baking soda with the purpose of preventing underarm odor. While there are many scientific studies measuring baking soda benefits, there are none that show effects on underarm odor. More concerning is the chemistry of this material. It is highly alkaline at 4 pH units higher than your skin. The skin’s pH is crucial to maintain good skin health. Increasing the pH can damage the skin, potentially resulting in reduction of the skin’s protective barrier function, as well as symptoms such as itching, burning, and/or rashes.

Additionally, its effectiveness at deodorizing properties may vary depending on factors such as individual body chemistry and the formulation of the deodorant product.

A core value of the Ban Brand is to ensure uncompromising safety standards. Our formulas are developed with other materials that are more effective against odor and do not damage or irritate the skin.

WE LOVE ANIMALS

We follow the conventions of the EU and other governmental bans on animal testing for cosmetics. Occasionally, laws and regulations require testing of materials outside of the cosmetics category. Since the 1980’s, Kao Corporation has been actively working together with industry associations and relevant third parties to find robust alternatives to animal testing, which have been successfully adopted as international guidelines.

DYE FREE

Ban sweat & odor products do not contain dyes. Dyes come from both natural and synthetic sources, and are used in personal care products to create a certain color, enhance a product's experience, or mask an unattractive appearance resulting from some of the other ingredients in the formula.
