The SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum is a concentrated serum that must be added to your personal moisturizer or lotion, mixed together and applied to your face and/or body. You control the amount of color by the amount of drops from the dropper you choose to add to your moisturizer. The product then work with your skin tone to recreate the sun's color. The concentrated serum is made with a tanning active that is derived from natural sugars called Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) that works to darken your skin with flawless, natural-looking color. DHA interacts with amino acids in your skin to develop a darker deeper skin tone over 24 hours that lasts for days. The ratio of the moisturizer and number of drops can play an important role in the amount of color results. You do not need to add more moisturizer when you add more drops of Serum in order to achieve deeper color.

How does the SOL by Jergens Deeper by Drop Sunless Tanning Serum mimic the color from the sun?

The SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop tanning serum was developed so that the change in tonality of your skin using the serum mixed with most moisturizers is similar to the change in tonality of skin from outdoor sun tanning.

What is the tanning ingredient derived from natural sugars?

Dihydroxyacetone, DHA is derived from natural plant sugars. It is the main ingredient in creating the tanning reaction on skin.

Will the color be natural on my skin?

SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop serum was formulated to let you be in control of your color. You choose the depth of color that looks natural to you. The product was designed mimic the results that are typically seen from sun tanning, minus the sun damage.

When will I start to see color?

Color Development speed varies from person to person but most people will be able to see color starting to appear around 4-6 hours. The color then will deepen up to 24 hours. The rate of color development depends on both how much serum you use mixed with an amount of moisturizer.

How dark in the color?

The results will vary based on the number of drops you add to your moisturizer, the amount of moisturizer you use, and your starting skin tone. The product was designed to deepen your skin tone about 3-5 shades. If more color is desired apply again the following day, add more drops your next application, or use less moisturizer plus more drops.

How many drops of the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum should I use?

3-6 drops for Subtle Sun-Kissed Color
7-10 Drops for Medium Golden Color
11-15 drops for Deeper Bronze Color
The recommendations were made based on face application. For body application we recommend this amount of each body section.

How long should I wait to shower?

For deep color results, wait at least 8 hours to wash your face and body. If you wait a full 24 hours you will see the deepest results.

Does SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum contain SPF?

This product does not contain a sunscreen and does not protect against sunburn. Repeated exposure of unprotected skin while tanning may increase the risk of skin aging, skin cancer, and other harmful effects to the skin even if you do not burn.

How often should I use this product?

The product was designed to let you control the amount of tan your receive. For the most natural color we recommend using the product once and waiting 24 hours to see the peak of your color. If deeper color is desired, it is recommended to use the product two days in a row. Some users may find that it is useful to use adjust the amount of drops of serum being used or to adjust the amount of moisturizer being used with the drops of serum. Once you feel the tan has faded, feel free to apply again to maintain your glow. You can use the product daily to maintain color. Fading on the face may appear faster than the body due to the exposure of the face and the use of cleansing products while washing the face.

Is the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum Safe?

This product's safety has been substantiated through extensive testing and evaluation, and should be used per the usage and caution statements indicated on the label. The product is intended for external use only. Avoid eye contact. If eye contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Do not apply to broken skin. Discontinue use if irritation or rash appears. Keep out of reach of children. This product does not contain a sunscreen and does not protect against sunburn. No, SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop serum has NOT been tested on animals.

When does the color level plateau?

After one usage the color will peak at 24 hours. If a deeper color is desired, it is recommended to apply the product two days in a row. Some may find it useful to adjust the number of drops of being used or adjust the amount of moisturizer being used to achieve deeper all over color. As the color is fading, you may reapply at any time to achieve deeper color.

How long will the color stay on my skin?

Peak color will appear 24 hours after application. The color can remain 4-5 days after application. The length of time the color lasts depends on how many drops of serum is used and what body parts the serum has been applied to. The product will fade more quickly on the face than the body. This is due to habits of facial cleansing and the facial skin turn over is quicker than body skin.

Will the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum moisturize my skin?

Yes SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum is a moisturizing formula. It contains the moisturizing ingredients like glycerin and is also infused with coconut water. Although you cannot directly apply the serum to your skin, you can use less moisturizer because the serum is an added boost a moisturization.

Will the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum stain my clothes?

No. There are no dyes in the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Serum, so there will be no staining on clothes, towels, or sheets.

Will the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum stain my hands?

It is possible for color to develop on the hands after use. We recommend you to wash your hands with soap and water immediately after application to avoid any hand staining.

The fragrance in the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Serum helps block the smell for many consumers who tested the product, but the smell is different from person to person. As the product works to darken skin, some people may develop an unfamiliar smell on their skin. The smell is part of the skin darkening process. Some people have told us that is smells like they have spent a day at the beach, and their skin smells warm and toasty.

What happens if I stop using the product? How long will the color stay on my skin?

If use of the product is discontinues, skin color will begin to fade in a few days and be completely faded after about one week.

How to use

How do I use the  SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum for Face and Body? 

Add a desired number of drops with your daily face or body moisturizer. More drops means deeper color. Use 3-6 drops for subtle sun-kissed color, 7-10 drops for a medium golden color, and 11 -15 drops for deeper bronze color. Use these recommendations for each body site when applying to the full body.
Do not apply the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop serum directly to your skin. It must be mixed in your hand with another product prior to application. Do not mix with other sunless tanning products.

How will I know where I apply the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum?

The tanning serum is clear, so there will be no guide color. But after you mixed with lotion, you should be able to see where you are applying the lotion and serum combination. We do recommend focusing on one body part before moving on to the next. Any missed spots can be corrected the next day. There is a slight learning curve, so practice does make perfect.

How should I prep my skin before using the SOL Deeper by the Drop Serum?

As any sunless tanner, it is best to exfoliate the skin prior to use. This will help achieve even application and help the tan last longer. We suggest applying the product to clean, dry, and previously exfoliated skin.

How can I make my color last longer?

Keeping your skin moisturized after your tan has developed is key to maintaining the tan. Wait 8-10 hours after application to apply moisturizer. But after your tan has fully developed feel free to moisturize as much as you'd like. Keeping moisturized skin will help maintain the tan.

How long should I wait until getting dressed?

You should wait until your skin feels dry. This could be anywhere from seconds to a few minutes.

Should I be careful around my dry skin areas (knees, elbows, ankles?)

Yes the dry skin areas develop darker color. For best results we suggest applying moisturizer to your dry areas like ankles, knees, and elbows first. This will help the color be more even all over.

Can I add the SOL Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum directly into my bottle of moisturizer, cream or lotion?

No. The SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop serum is designed to be freshly mixed with a portion of the lotion or moisturizer in the hand prior to application. Adding the serum to the entire bottle of your moisturizer could over time cause unwanted effects to your moisturizer, like causing it to turn yellow or smell unpleasant.

Can I apply the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum directly to my skin?

No, do not apply the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum directly to your skin. It is a concentrated serum designed to be mixed with an additional moisturizer. It is unlikely, but irritation may occur if the Serum is applied directly to the skin without mixing with another moisturizer.

Can I mix the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum with other sunless tanning products?

No, do not mix the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum with other sunless tanning products.

Can I use my SPF facial moisturizer with the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop Sunless Tanning Serum?

Yes, you may mix the SOL by Jergens Deeper by the Drop with a facial moisturizer that contains SPF. The sunless tanning effect will work with an SPF product. However, we cannot guarantee the sun protection from your moisturizer. Therefore you must apply further SPF products for sun protection or use other sun protection measures.

The formula has not been tested for Comedogenicity but we can support that the drops do not make her skin feel more oily than it would if she just applied her moisturizer, without the drops. I hope that makes sense.

Is it infused with coconut water like the mousses? Is it made with the “tanning active derived from natural sugars?

Yes. We can also call out vitamin E as an imagery ingredient and an antioxidant blend of (Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Fruit Extract (and) Garnicia Mangostana Peel Extract (and) Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Extract.

We recommend using 5-7 pumps of product per leg, 3-4 pumps of product per arm (and) chest area, and then 2-3 pumps for the remaining body area, And we suggest using a final pump to go over areas that might have been missed or where you want to take extra care like elbows, knees, and ankles

The product was designed to have low transfer. Although in some cases you may see some of the guide color transfer onto clothes or sheet. Any color transfer should come out in regular washing. Follow the washing directions on your garment or sheets.

We recommend you use a sunless tanning applicator mitt to apply the product. The guide color will stain your hands while applying with your hands. And if you use your hands you need to wash your hands with soap and water immediately after applying to stop any hand staining.

How do I select if I should use Medium or Deep?

Using the formula customized for your natural skin tone will ensure the most natural-looking color. To find your natural skin tone, look at the inside (or underside) of your forearms, since these areas are not typically exposed to the sun. If you think your skin is fair to medium then you might find the Medium is best for your skin tone. But if you desire more color change, you can still use the Deep product. If your skin tone is medium to deep, we suggest using the Deep product to see the most effect from the color change.
Another way to choose your formula is to refer to your favorite foundation color. If you typically use foundation colors that are fair or (light) medium (for example: light ivory, ivory, porcelain, alabaster, light beige, nude), then choose the Medium. If you typically use foundation colors that are (darker) medium or tan (for example: medium beige, tan, caramel), then choose the Deep.

Can I use the SOL Tinted Mousse on my face?

We do not recommend using the SOL Tinted Mousse on the face. It was designed for a body application and facial skin is different than the body skin

What is the shelf life for this product? How long is this product good for? / What is the expiration date?

This product has been formulated to be stable for at least 3 years. The color is best if used within the first 12 months after opening.

Is this safe to use?

The highest priority of the Jergens Brand and Kao USA, Inc. as a whole is the health and well being of our consumers. All SOL by Jergens products have been thoroughly reviewed and tested to ensure safety. This product is non-irritating and dermatologist tested. However, you should follow the same guidelines that apply to use of any tanning product. This product is intended for external use only and you should avoid eye contact.

Are nuts, gluten, or salicylates present in any of your products?

Since some fragrances may contain trace amounts of nut, gluten, or salicylates, we cannot guarantee that all of our fragranced products are free of these ingredients.

Does this product have any nickel, mercury, or other heavy metals in it? I have concerns about allergy (or exposure to these substances).

Yes, the bottle is recycleable. The pump is not recyclable. The bottle was made with 90% PCR. PCR is post-consumer recycled, meaning it was made with 90% recycled plastic.

The change in tonality of your skin from using Sol by Jergens Sunless Tanning Water is very similar to the change in tonality of skin from sun tanning.

How do the SOL by Jergens Sunless Tanning Water Mousse work?

The SOL by Jergens Sunless Tanning Water Mousse work with your skin tone to recreate the sun's color. The Tanning Water is made with a tanning active that is derived from natural sugars called Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) that works to darken your skin with flawless, natural-looking color. This product also contains Erythrulose, another tanning active. Our research has optimized the combination of Erythrulose and DHA so that they work together to enhance and deepen your natural skin color. Erythrulose and DHA provide deeper skin color through chemical reactions called the Maillard Reaction (interaction with amino acids in your skin). However, they deepen skin color at a different rate of change and to different skin colorations. Both are safe for consumers for topical use. DHA and Erythrulose develop a deeper skin tone over time that is long lasting.

If you have a lighter to medium natural skin tone, the Medium shade may be more appropriate for you and may provide the most natural-looking results. If you have a darker natural skin tone, try the Deep Tanning Water.
If you desire more/less of a skin color change after using Tanning Water Mousse, try using the other shade or apply more/less frequently or more/less of an amount of product.

SOL by Jergens Sunless Tanning Water is an effective moisturizer. It contains moisturizing ingredients like glycerin and coconut water.

Can I use Tanning Water Mousse on my face?

SOL by Jergens Tanning Water is not designed for face application. Jergens Natural Glow FACE Daily Moisturizer Sunscreen SPF 20 was designed to be used on your face; use daily to deepen the color of your facial skin.

Is there a fragrance in SOL by Jergens Tanning waters?

This smell is a part of the skin darkening process. As the product works to darken the skin, some people may develop an unfamiliar smell on their skin. Some people have told us that it smells as if they have spent a day at the beach, and their skin smells warm & toasty. The fragrance in SOL by Jergens Tanning Water masks the smell for many of the consumers who tested the product, but the smell is different from person to person.

Can I use a sunscreen with this product?

Yes. Just apply it after you use Jergens SOL Tanning water and allow it to dry completely. Jergens SOL Tanning Water does not contain a sunscreen and does not protect against sunburn. Repeated exposure of unprotected skin while tanning may increase the risk of skin aging, skin cancer and other harmful effects to the skin even if you do not burn.

Can I use Jergens Sol Tanning water in a tanning bed?

We do not recommend using tanning beds.

Will SOL by Jergens Tanning water stain clothes? How do I get the color out of clothes?

No. There are no dyes in this product, so there will be no staining on clothes, towels, or sheets.

Does it matter what type of clothing I wear over my skin after I have applied the product and let it dry? With leggings or tight clothes?

We recommend wearing loose clothes after the application.

Is the SOL by Jergens Tanning Water package recyclable?

The bottle is a #1 (PET) and is recyclable where facilities exist. The Pump must be removed from the bottle and discarded (cannot be recycled).

Yes, Dihydroxyacetone, (DHA) is derived from natural plant sugars. It is the main ingredient in creating the tanning reaction on skin.

Should I use a mitt?

Yes, we suggest using a Mitt to help create a full and even coverage for the body

How should I apply this product?

For best results, apply using our tan applicator mitt in circular motions on the skin ensuring all areas are covered. The product gives light gleam to guide application. No need to rinse off. Wait a few minutes for skin to dry prior to getting dressed, and your tan will start to develop in few hours. Wash hands immediately after application. Exfoliate prior to use and moisturize dry areas such as elbows, knees, ankles and feet. Use once for natural-looking color and repeat the next day if deeper color is desired.

How often should I use this product?

Use once for natural-looking color. Wait until after a shower, the color will peak at 24 hours. If a deeper color is desired, then we recommended using the product the following day. For the most natural color looking tan wait 4-5 days, or once you notice the color has begun to fade before reapplying.

How long should I wait to use SOL by Jergens Tanning water after shaving or waxing?

The skin coloring results will differ from person to person. Some consumers experience natural-looking results even if they apply SOL by Jergens® Sunless Tanning Water Mousse after shaving or waxing. Other consumers have said that they see more natural looking results if they wait to apply SOL by Jergens Sunless Tanning Water until the day after shaving or waxing.

How long should I wait prior to showering, exercising, or swimming after using?

You should wait at least four hours after applying SOL by Jergens Tanning Water before showering or sweating.

How can I prevent the elbows and knees from becoming darker than the rest of my skin?

Yes the dry skin areas develop darker color. For best results we suggest applying moisturizer to your dry areas like ankles, knees, and elbows first. This will help the color be more even all over.

What if, I don’t see a color change from SOL by Jergens Tanning water?

Everyone's color development can be different. When applying the mousse, make sure the skin is free from soap residue and oil. If there is too much oil on the skin, the product will have too much “slip” and may spread too thin leaving less of the tanning agents in the skin.

Will the SOL by Jergens Tanning Water stain my hands?

It is possible for color to develop on the hands after use. We recommend you to wash your hands with soap and water immediately after application to avoid any hand staining.

Where does MyKaoShop.com ship to?

We currently ship to domestic United States locations only, excluding Hawaii and Alaska, but we are looking to serve those states and international locations in the future.

What if I have to cancel my order?

We cannot guarantee order cancellation, but requests can be submitted during normal business hours (8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST) Monday through Friday. Orders ship immediately once they are received to our shipping department, making cancellation unlikely. In cases where we can process a return to sender, we require a 30% restocking fee taken from the total refund.

Can I track my order?

Yes, as soon as your order is received and product is shipped, you will receive a tracking number to the email entered during the order process. From there, you can track the package via the shipping carrier. If there appears to be a problem with tracking, contact us here.

When will my order ship?
